MegaTrack 1.4.1 is "out"

NOTE TO OS X USERS: If you downloaded the "binary" 1.4.1 before 2100 US EDT on 2005-08-30 you need to re-download the file. There was an error in the build that didn't catch until a few minutes ago and it's uploading as I blog (1-way cable...it's gonna be a while). I guess Java isn't as portable as I hoped it would be (I did the build on a PC).

This minor release fixes an issue with active storms and also some rendering issues.

Unisys changes format *again*; OpenMap integration almost done

Apologies to everyone who was trying to follow some of the non-Atlantic current storms. Unisys changed the data format *again* and the scraper didn't notify me of the empty data file (and I've been on vacation).

It's back now.

Also, I've almost finished a rough integration of the OpenMap code so the app will be lighter, faster and have a more GIS-feel to it. I'm also hoping to add some hurricane tracking to the web site as well.

MegaTrack 1.4 is "out"

Previous to this year, open source projects would have had tons of free time. It seems that when I try to find time for this one, everything else comes up to take time away from development.

This is primarlily a bug-fix release which makes the app usable for the 2005 season. I also had to update the server code to compenstate for a change in the Unisys index format.

I'm hoping to get a really nice update out in early summer. Pls stay tuned.

MegaTrack 1.3 is finally out

Ivan set me back time-wise quite a bit (see www.rudis.net for pictures of the lake that was a road). We didn't have it nearly as bad as the folks in Florida and the tropical islands, so you won't catch me complaining.

This is an interim release and a bit rough around the edges, but I wanted to get it out to fix some problems folks were having. Changes include: Someone submitted a patch to fix proxy authentication. I'll include that fix and give credit in 1.4.

Documentation has not been udated yet. 1.4 will have enough new features and 1.3 needed to fix some problems that I just had to get it out and worry about doc later.

Again, many thanks to all for their patience, support and contriubtions. I'm happy with the way the app is progressing and looking forward to it being a full-fledged, world class storm tracker.

MegaTrack Version 1.2 is stable

UPDATED: See below!

MegaTrack 1.2 is officially released. Changes include:
UPDATE: Please download and copy mtkey.gif to the MegaTrack "graphics" directory after you install the program. In my haste to post the release, I threw together the new storm key and swapped the text positions of two storm types in Photoshop (layers are nice, but can be a royal pain if you're a poozer like me). The new graphic will be standard in 1.3. Apologies for any confusion this might have caused.

Downloads (via SourceForge): Many thanks to the folks who sumbitted feedback and especially the ones who donated!

Version 1.1 is ready

MegaTrack 1.1 is released to the wild. Changes include: Due to bandwidth costs, I've had to migrate all releases to sourceforge. If that proves problematic, I'll move some back here. All links are to the distributed downloads hosted @ sourceforge, so a single, left-click is sufficient.

Many thanks to the folks who sumbitted feedback and especially the ones who donated!

MegaTrack - Tropical Storm Tracking

MegaTrack is finally stable enough for SourceForge and general release.

I threw it together to make it easier to track storms this season (2004) and I'm hoping it will be of use to other folks. You can grab the source tarball from http://sourceforge.net/projects/megatrack/ and, if you're running Mac OS X (and why aren't you?), there's a pre-built binary version here.
